Barracuda
Barracuda is a large, long, slender, fish living in Tropical and sub tropical oceans worldwide. In Maldives, many are found on Reefs, searching for preys. Smaller fish swims in schools and the adults is solitary.
This fish is fearsome and many swimmers, feared of its attack, though it is not a dangerous species. I have heard many stories of barracuda attacks; let us see the truth.
Why does Barracuda attacks?
Many Scuba divers, Snorkelers and Swimmers spend time with them, without any attacks. It is a proof that it does not attack without reason.
In addition, Barracuda is Scavengers; that’s why they follow the swimmers and others, by thinking them as large predators, to scavenge any remaining food left after they hunt.
However, if they are annoyed they will attack to defend it.
Spear fishing is extremely dangerous if barracuda is visible, because the blood of wounded animals will attract it and may cause to attack for the foods.
Even if it bites by mistake, it will leave the person after knowing that it’s not their usual food source.
Many tasty recipes can be prepared from Barracuda. I recommend, frying, grilling or smoking as the best way to prepare your side dish. It is delicious!
Finally, it is fun and easy to catch Barracuda with caution.
Trolling using many types of lures like spoons, feathered jigs, catches barracuda. In short, anything shiny that you pull over the water attracts them and it will bite.
Some times live fish are also used to catch it. In any method, you have to use full strength to get it on the boat.
